5-10pm: salon à l'empire continues its new weekly summer jazz party at the terrace at yotel with live music by the ladybugs. no minimum, free admission. 41st and 11 th av.
7pm (thru 7/27): no waiting in line for hours to see this shakespeare in the park: new york classical theatre's 15th season of free, unticketed plays in public spaces features as you like it. central park 5/29-6/22 (thurs-sun), prospect park 6/24-6/29, and battery park 7/1-27 (not mondays).
7 pm. The free annual outdoor French film festival Films on the Green begins tonight with a Central Park screening of “Purple Noon” ("Plein Soleil"), a 1960 thriller from director René Clément. The festival’s films share a different theme each year. This year it's “masculin” — portrayed in classic love stories, film noir, and deadpan French comedies. 8:30 p.m., Central Park’s Cedar Hill (Fifth avenue and 79th Street).
