Saturday events!

Saturday, June 21, 1 p.m.
The Coney Island Mermaid Parade
West 21st Street and Surf Avenue, Coney Island (Brooklyn)

Do you have a camera? Good. Pack it up and get down to Coney Island. The Mermaid Parade is hands-down one of the best people-watching events of the year in our fair city. Colors, costumes, glitter, wigs, parade floats, seashells, tridents. You name it. Folks seriously dress the part for this annual ocean-side party. The parade kicks off at 1 p.m., followed by the Mermaid Parade Ball from 6 p.m. to midnight, with live music, DJ sets and cold brews. Admission to the parade is free, and tickets to the ball are $35 per person.

Saturday, June 21, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Make Music New York 2014
Multiple Locations Around the City

We’re feelin’ lucky that the summer solstice falls on a Saturday in 2014. Really, what’s better than the longest day of the year falling on a weekend? Well, this should be the cherry on top of all that sunlight. For twelve straight hours, Make Music New York will fill the city with 1,300 concerts in the streets, along sidewalks and inside parks across the city. There’s somethin’ for everyone, too, from Punk Island hardcore out on Staten Island to a Bhangra party in Brooklyn and Porch Stomp bluegrass on Governors Island. Admission is free.
