saturday:
free target first saturdays at the brooklyn museum celebrates the summer with music by nina sky and blitz the ambassador, a screening of do the right thing, a female comedian showcase, and more. food, beer and wine are available for purchase. admission to the museum and events are free, while admission to the special ai weiwei exhibit is reduced to $10 tonight

jazz 6:30pm dance lesson, 7:30pm live music (thru 7/12): lincoln center's annual midsummer night swing outdoor dance series returns for the season: tonight: james langton’s new york all-star big band: clarinet a la king! the tribute to benny goodman. $17 (there is usually plenty of room to hear/watch the music outside of the dance floor for free)

7pm show (thru 8/9): celebrate brooklyn!, the 36th annual outdoor performance series at prospect park's bandshell, continues the season with the robert glasper experiment featuring talib kweli, and glenn kotche and aja monet. rain or shine (check their website/facebook/twitter for hazardous weather cancellation notices). free ($3 suggested donation). >>

7pm-1am (fri-sat, ongoing): the weekly brooklyn night bazaar night market brings bands, food, breweries + wineries, vendors, light installations, and mini golf, ping pong + skeeball to a 24,000 sq ft warehouse. this week's music comes from spirit family reunion, odetta hartman, gunfight, zongo junction, chicano batman and karikatura. 165 banker st @ norman ave (greenpoint), free admission.


2-4pm (sundays thru 8/2): the annual laughter in the park free outdoor comedy series starts the season with standup by reggie watts, kevin avery, adam newman, phoebe robinson and nick vatterott. central park’s mineral springs.

6:30pm (thurs-sun thru 7/27): 'the other free shakespeare in the park': back for its 11th season, hudson warehouse theater company presents oscar wilde’s the importance of being earnest. soldiers' and sailors' monument in riverside park (w. 89th st + riverside drive), free.

3pm (thru 8/24): the free summerstage city parks concert series brings 100 free music, dance, film, comedy, family and theater performances to 14 parks throughout the five boroughs. this weekend: teddy afro and noura mint seymali (sat) and global family day with okee dokee brothers, hybrid movement company, shaun parker + company, acrobuffos, and national dance institute (sun) in central park. rain or shine (check their website/facebook/twitter for hazardous weather cancellation notices)
