cultural activities in NYC

The Floating Library Refinery 29
Hudson River Park's Pier 25
Through Oct 3
The newest addition to the Hudson River is a library aboard an old steamship. Come browse their selection of books or hear an author's reading. NO PHONES ALLOWED. There will be a carefully curated collection of books, and you're also welcome to BYOB and enjoy the "quiet reading ambience" on the main deck. Plus, more than 70 artists, who Glow describes as having an element of "pirateness" within their work, are collaborating on events and mini exhibits that will take place throughout the library's month-long pop-up.

Dumbo art festival
September 26 – September 28, 2014
Multiple locations 45 Main St.
Brooklyn, NY 11201
(718) 488-8588
Brooklyn, NY
With its industrial spaces easily converted to studios, DUMBO underwent a radical transformation into a thriving community for art and design. The DUMBO Arts Festival honors that creativity with an all-out three-day festival that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to around 100 open studios, 50 galleries and stages and no shortage of art and performance spilling out from work spaces and storefronts into the streets—with outdoor installations, murals, large-scale projections and plenty of poets, dancers and buskers plying their trades.
